The Deadliest Pig of the Vietnam War
As night ushered in a hushed silence over Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, Petty Officer David Larsen sat nervously in a patrol boat as it cautiously made its way through the dense jungle along the perilous upper Saigon River. It was August 2, 1969, and the 21-year-old gunner’s mate was part of a team with a vital yet risky mission: to set up a two-boat waterborne guard post on the murky river and intercept hostile river traffic.
Also on board was a six-man ambush team charged with protecting the pair of patrol vessels from any land-based threats. As the fiberglass boats reached their position, they cut their engines and quietly glided toward the riverbank, where Larsen watched the six soldiers lea...

When I watch these war stories and tales of incredible selflessness and bravery of these soldiers, I like to think that I too, would have the fortitude and strength of character to do the same. But I am not so sure that I would have the courage to not just follow orders and remain safe, while being able to justify my actions by saying “I followed my orders.

In a series of documentaries, “The Secrets of War” narrated by Charlton Heston in the 1990s, he stated that the U.S. would have used Chemical and Biological warfare artillery shells and bombs in their invasion of Japan which would have resulted in millions of dead Japanese soldiers and civilians. It also noted that both Japan and the U.S. had never signed onto the Geneva Convention outlawing the use of such weapons. It must be remembered that the Japanese Military had indoctrinated men, women and children to use spears, grenades and bomb packs against American soldiers invading the Japanese home islands.

Fact is 19 B29 planes were specially built for bombing Japan. Each one had their bomb bay’s especially customized to hold an atom bomb. Each bomb was of a different type that had a unique configuration which is why each plane was different. Those 19 planes had been delivered to Tinian Island weeks before the first bombs arrived. Don’t kid yourself there was only 2 bombs. Japans surrender just saved them from having more than 2 cities being bombed. The rest of the bombs were later used in testing in Nevada and the Pacific.

There are rumours that the decision to nuke Japan was racial motivated. Not knowing the full extend of the devastation a nuclear blast on a Population will have it would be an easier Sell to theAmerican Public if the “Labrats” were asian , not like a large portion of German/Americans. It has been a contention whether Japan had ready to surrender and the use of the Nukes were intended on the Post WW2 new Enemy, the Soviet Union. A demonstration of might and a dire warning. The US knew well before the surrender of Germany that WW2 was to be over soon and a new Enemy/Target was needed. ( Hey , Russia is full of natural resources and they rightfully belong to the US) BTW, anyone remember the little stunt Britain tried to pull in 1918, when just after WW1 and the turmoil of the Russian Revolution, they deployed Military into Russia? Well, let’s try it again using Ukraine, the Bewildered Herd wont connect the dots. Hence the utter surprise when relatively shortly after Hiroshima the damn Ruskies exploded their own Nuke, Dreads!

People (mostly Americans thanks to McArthur) often over look the New Guinea part of the pacific war. But the total campaign included not only the first land defeat of the Japanese by anyone, Milne bay by Australia. But also the totals are USA Kia 7000 Australia Kia 9000 Japan Kia 200,000 It started rough but became one of the most decisive victories of the war and happened in tandem with guadal canal and if you count them as 2 parts of the same battle which the Japanese do, it gets even more comprehensive with what the marines did at guadal canal
